My Role

As the Fan Outreach Coordinator Intern, my duties included:

  • Engage and create a buzz to generate awareness on campus and in the local community through grassroots marketing via street team

  • Complete projects to aid the Marketing Department 

  • Attend monthly internship professional development and brainstorm meetings 

Strategy

Analyze the University of Pittsburgh students to best market athletic events to students by participating in brainstorming sessions and crafting pitches that will lead to increased participation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I completed projects that helped me understand trends for Pitt Athletics. For example, I created a report for Total Attendance Trends for the ACC schools from 2013-2020 as well as social media strategies to engage Pitt fans who could not attend events.

 

I utilized three strategies for each pitch that would focus on aligning Pitt Athletics with the values of the University of Pittsburgh, identifying and implementing trends, and connecting ourselves with the city of Pittsburgh.

Results & What I Learned

Through this internship, I learned about sports marketing and how to support Pitt Athletics during the uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic. I also helped create a Total Attendance Report for the ACC schools to aid marketing decisions as well as marketing proposals for virtual campaigns. I also created several campaign suggestions for Pitt Baseball and the 20th Anniversary of the Oakland Zoo.
